I prefer to paint from life, and not from photos. The painting looks more alive and immediate. When you paint from photos (unavoidable if the pet has passed away, or you live on the other side of the world), the camera has already turned a three dimensions into two. It is simply a matter of copying and adding your own personal touch. All these portraits were painted with the live animal infront of me.
