What would happen if the moon fell into a deep, dark lake?

Would it disappear beneath the water? Would the stars come looking for it? Or might something extraordinary begin to happen?

The Moon Falls is an original mixed-media painting inspired by a story in Sharon Blackie's book Foxfire, Wolfskin and Other Stories of Shapeshifting Women.

A little moonlight and mystery

I have always been fascinated by fairy tales, myths and the mysterious relationship between the world we can see and the world we sense through our imagination.

In The Moon Falls, I explore the idea of the moon falling into a dark lake.

The image invites us to enter a world where the familiar becomes strange and wonderful, where the moon is more than a distant object in the night sky and the water may be hiding secrets of its own.

I love the way fairy tales can transform our understanding of the natural world, encouraging us to see it as something alive, mysterious and full of possibility.

Where nature meets imagination

My work often begins with something observed in nature, but it does not necessarily end there.

I am interested in what lies beyond appearances, in the numinous, the mysterious and the imaginal world that seems to exist alongside our everyday reality.

Stories such as those collected and reimagined by Sharon Blackie resonate deeply with my belief that we are part of a living world, rather than separate from it.

For me, painting offers a way of exploring that relationship.

Perhaps the moon has not fallen at all. Perhaps it is simply waiting for us to discover it.

Bring a little enchantment into your home

Measuring 30 × 21 cm, The Moon Falls is an intimate original artwork that invites curiosity, contemplation and daydreaming.

It would look beautiful in a bedroom, reading corner or anywhere you would enjoy a little mystery and moonlight.

It would also make a thoughtful gift for someone who loves fairy tales, mythology, the moon and the magic of the natural world.

A painting for those who believe there is always more to the world than meets the eye.
