A moment of transformation, captured in colour and light.

High on a wooden ladder, a figure reaches towards the ceiling, absorbed in the task of installing new lighting. Below, the warm interior unfolds in a lively arrangement of architectural lines, rich colours and unexpected perspectives.

New Lights captures a fleeting moment of everyday activity, transforming an ordinary scene into an expressive composition of colour, movement and space.

The strong vertical lines of the ladder contrast with the diagonal sweep of the wooden counter, drawing the eye through the painting. Deep burgundy, warm ochre and soft turquoise create a rich atmosphere, while a hanging lamp and the vibrant green leaves of a plant introduce moments of visual calm.

There is a quiet sense of anticipation in the scene. Something is being changed, improved, prepared for what comes next. The painting celebrates not only the finished beauty of a place, but also the human activity that brings it to life.

With its expressive brushwork, unusual viewpoint and lively interplay of shapes and colours, this original contemporary painting invites us to discover the extraordinary within the ordinary.

A distinctive artwork for collectors who appreciate atmospheric interiors, expressive painting and the stories hidden in everyday life.

On display for the first time since its making in Basel from mid-November
