My Grandfather and I: A Story of Tools, Memory and Making

What stories can everyday objects tell us?

My Grandfather and I is an original acrylic painting on paper, inspired by my grandfather's old box of tools and the memories of his workshop.

My grandfather was a wheelwright, making carriages and ladders for local farmers. He also made the little wheelbarrow that appears in this painting. As a child, I loved playing amongst the wood shavings in his workshop, surrounded by the smells of freshly cut timber and the tools of his trade.

Today, that very same workshop is my artist's studio. The scent of wood has given way to oil paint, but the spirit of making things by hand lives on.

The mirror in the composition is a quiet self-portrait, bringing past and present together. Through expressive colour and an arrangement of familiar objects, this painting becomes a conversation between generations, celebrating craftsmanship, memory and the enduring connection between people and the things they make.

A quirky, personal still life that invites you to look closer and discover the stories hidden within ordinary objects.
