Café People captures a lively gathering of people sharing a moment in a café. Some are absorbed in conversation, others appear lost in thought or quietly observing the world around them. Each figure inhabits their own world, together they create a rich tapestry of human encounters.

With expressive brushwork, bold colours and playful contrasts of light and shadow, the painting explores the subtle dynamics of social spaces and the beauty of everyday life. The overlapping figures, animated gestures and glimpses of interaction invite us to invent stories about the people gathered around these tables.

An original figurative painting by Swiss-British artist Sibylle Laubscher, celebrating the colour, character and complexity of ordinary human encounters.

On display for the first time since its making in Basel from mid-November
