I prefer to paint from life instead of from photos, but video works beautifully as well — it helps capture that spark of presence and character. When I work from photos (unavoidable if your pet has passed away or lives far away), the camera already flattens everything into two dimensions. In those cases, I do my best to add back depth, warmth, and my own artistic touch. All the portraits you see here were painted from life, except for Oscar, who was painted from a video after he had sadly passed away.
